DUE TO THE 2023 CALIFORNIA SENATE BILL 2, WE ARE CURRENTLY REVISING OUR ENTIRE WEBSITE. THE CCW LAWS & COURSES HAVE CHANGED EFFECTIVE 01/01/2024. THESE CHANGES EFFECT RENEWAL & INITIAL CCW TRAINING AND APPLICATION PROCESSES, AS WELL AS OVERALL STATE LAWS REGARDING CCW. THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH DOES SUM UP SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT CCW.   

We are currently updating our websites. The important changes to be aware of until we roll out the final version are as follows: Initial CCW training classes are 16 hours (2 days of training). Renewal CCW classes are 8 hours. Both classes do include a one hour mental health component in the classroom. You will be required to provide 3 character references on your initial or renewal application. ALL guns on your permit must be owned and regsitered to you in the Calironia law enforcement firearms database (no family member exceptions, including no exception to a spouses' gun. If you purchased your gun in California within the last 30 or so years, it is already regsitered to the purchaser). As of 01/06/2024, the "sensitive areas" of Senate Bill 2 (where a gun cannot be carried) has been struck down by the 9th Circuit court. Stay tuned for more info on that to follow. Otherwise, please ignore the rest of this website until it is completely updated with current information and content.

The SCOTUS has declared that there shall no longer be a "good cause" requirement to obtain a CCW permit. However, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office wil conduct a very thorough background check on you to obtain a CCW permit.

Best Handgun Training Instructor John Taylor is certified to instruct for Nevada County CCW courses, both the initial 8 hour CCW course and the 4 hour CCW renewal course. 

Firearms safety is of the utmost importance. It is our goal to educate and prepare you for the essentials of carrying a concealed weapon safely. 

We encourage the continued development of these skills, while pursuing further training courses, and going to the range to participate in the sport of target shooting, competitive events and other courses.

In my course, we will cover the safe handling, shooting fundamentals, marksmanship, firearms nomenclature, laws of the state of CA and the use of lethal force as it pertains to self defense, concealed carry tactics, retention, holstering, drawing and firing from concealment, the social and legal aftermath and effects of an incident after the use of deadly force, and situational awareness.

Gun Safety is a very serious matter, which cannot be taken lightly. Becoming a handgun owner or a Concealed Weapons Permit Holder assumes a tremendous amount of responsibility and liability.

Just because you own or may have access to a firearm (unless you have had "excellent" training) doesn't mean that you have the "proper" training, knowledge and ability to use it properly, store it safely, and be prepared for any situation. The proper training with a firearm is extremely important.

Our NRA Certified Instructors pride themselves with instructing some of the best firearms training courses available to the public.

Whether you are new to shooting, or an experienced shooter, you will find that the variety of firearms courses which we offer can be a wealth of experience.

Best Handgun Training conducts regularly scheduled training classes throughout the month. If you require special needs or prefer a one-on-one instruction with a private lesson, our instructors will be happy to accommodate your request.

We are pleased to announce that Best Handgun Training now offers instructional courses just for women. Over time, some women have requested such a course, to relieve the pressure of competing with men in the class. Although a majority of our courses are for both men and women, now there is an opportunity to enroll in a course designed just for your needs.

Best Handgun Training offers many courses which are certified by the National Rifle Association. Be sure to sign up for your NRA class today.

The NRA does not certify CCW (Carry Concealed Weapons) courses.

Best Handgun Training also provides Concealed Firearms Permit training certifications for 36 "shall issue" states. This is an excellent opportunity to satisfy the requirements for these states, while only needing to apply within one state to obtain reciprocity throughout many other states (excluding CA, as CA does NOT have reciprocity agreements with any other state).

Although Best Handgun Training provides CCW Training and Instructions/Certifications/Qualifications in 33 states, this does not apply to all CA counties. CA CCW training requirements may vary from county to county. Please email or call for further clarifications.
